Michael Kovrig, one of the Canadians arbitrarily detained in China known as the Two Michaels, was living in Budapest, Hungary in the '90s and he was the singer of a local band, Bankrupt. Our band.

After his departure, we remained friends who met annually when Michael visited Budapest. He even joined the band on stage to sing an old favorite in April 2017, the last time we met.

On 10 Dec 2018, Michael was arrested by security officials in Beijing, in retaliation for the arrest of Huawei’s CFO in Vancouver a few days earlier. Michael and the other Canadian hostage, Michael Spavor, have been in prison ever since. They were formally charged with espionage in June 2020 and they had closed trials in March 2021.

They are innocent people who were in the wrong place the wrong time and were caught up in an international political power game. Their path to freedom is getting narrower every day. Time is running out.

We had to write a song about Michael's story to raise awareness of his situation. "The Plane To Toronto" is a bittersweet mixture of hope, despair, and anger. It's the most important song we've ever written.

On the request of Michael's family, we'll donate all profits from the song to the charity Hostage International.
